Trumpeter
Born into a musical household, it was not surprise when Joe picked up his brother’s trumpet aged three years old. Fast forward a couple of years and Joe would go on to complete his grade 8 at 12, his diploma in Sixth form and play in NCBF and county wide big bands all before leaving school. It was at the University of Kent where Joe realised that his trumpeting could become his career. Whilst balancing a demand linguistics degree and music scholarship, Joe played with the university orchestra, big band, concert band, a 1930s dance orchestra, a 1950s rock n roll band and composed music for a Edinburgh Fringe show. He accompanied the band Coco and the Butterfields in carious concerts, most notably in their appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival.
After an impressive tenure as musical director of the university productions of Cabere, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde and 6 showcases encompassing over 200 songs, Joe continued to play trumpet professionally.
Since leaving university three years ago, Joe has played at Glastonbury, Abbey Road Studios, Wembley Stadium, the BBC, Alexander Palace, the Round House Jazz Cafe, All Points East, Lovebox, Citadel and for the London product launch for Adidas. After working with the School of Rock Musical children’s cast in the West End, Joe refocused back to the trumpet, predominately playing for three bands: Dat brass, the Hip Hop Orchestra and the Horny Js. Working with names like Craig Charles, Chris Tofu, Swing and Bass Sound system and Afishal, Joe enjoys the versatility of DJ Horn work. Although Joe’s trumpeting has taken him to gigs across the world in Serbia, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, his favourite trumpeting traditions are close to home. Joe has played the last post for several years, at Euston Station, Waterloo and various churches in and around London, Staffordshire and Canterbury.
